Faculty Position Announcement
TITLE: Assistant Professor
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching responsibilities will be in the Department of Automotive Technology. A typical course load would require
3 to 4 courses per semester in the following areas depending on the faculty’s area of specialization: Engines,
Brakes, Steering, Alignment & Suspension, Manual Transmissions, Engine Performance, Electrical Systems, Air
Conditioning and Heating, Construction Equipment, Agricultural Equipment, Precision Farming, Telematics, and
Collision & Paint. Additional responsibilities will include: ability and willingness to teach evening/night classes,
advisement of students, assisting in student recruitment (especially in the Kansas City market), development of
corporate partnerships, and development of new courses and curriculum.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor of Science degree in automotive or related technical program and Masters of Science in Auto-
motive Technology or similar field.
Experience: Minimum of three years of recent corporate or dealership experience in automotive service operations,
or five years teaching experience in automotive technology.
Preferred Qualifications: ASE certification, progress toward a doctorate in closely related field; experience
in teaching courses described, technician experience, experience with NATEF Accreditation, experience in the agri-
culture industry specifically telematics and/or precision farming, experience in automotive mechanical design or
applied automotive engineering, experience in the diesel and heavy equipment industry, experience in the collision
industry, experience in curriculum development, and/or can speak Spanish.
STARTING DATE: August 11, 2014
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Tenure-earning, position contingent of funding
SALARY: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
DEPARTMENT OF AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY: The Department of Automotive Technology offers
Bachelor of Science in Technology (BST), Bachelor of Applied Science in Technology (BAS [completion degree for
AAS]), and an Associate of Applied Science in Automotive Service Technology (AAS [two-year degree]). The BST
degree includes six options in: Automotive Manufacturing Management, Automotive Service Management and Mar-
keting, Diesel and Heavy Equipment, Automotive Mechanical Design, Automotive Collision Repair and Insurance
Management, and Automotive Technical. A Master of Science degree in Technology/ Technical Education or Tech-
nology is also available within the College of Technology.
