The purpose of the main death notice is to advise
family and friends of the death. There are no set
rules or guidelines for the wording of this notice,
however most are structured in the traditional format
of the full name of the deceased person, the date
of death and date of birth or age, and family names
and relationships. Some suggested verses for the
death notice have been listed for you to assist in the
wording to close the notice.
The funeral notice informs friends and family of
the day, time and place of the funeral as well as
instructions regarding the committal and floral
tributes or charity donations. The notice follows
a standard format, includes the funeral directors
contact details and is submitted by the funeral
director, not the family.
A bereavement notice is often submitted after the
funeral or memorial has taken place to thank friends
and family for their sympathies and condolences, this
is done directly to the newspaper by the family.
A memorial notice is placed by the family in
rememberance at the one year anniversary.
